Before a capacity Italian and English-speaking audience in Biblioteca Marucelliana in Florence, Italy, Rossella Levi read select passages from her book No Act of Betrayal in Italian. Then, Johanna Bishop, who translated the work, read the passages in English. It didn’t matter who spoke in what language, the emotion and empathy in the room was evident for the suffering of the Levi family, the death in the camps of Rossella’s grandfather, the loss of everything by the family before and during the War, and the ultimate insult of a false accusation of betrayal against Renato Levi. But the book ends on a note of hope with only a request that we not forget the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of those who gave so much to free Italy from the fascists and Nazis.
While the presentation was not recorded, the readings will be posted in the days ahead. No Act of Betrayal is available for purchase through Amazon here.
